As a women-owned and run business ourselves, this feature is very near and dear to our hearts. We believe it is important to highlight female leaders in our community in order to inspire other women with entrepreneurial ambitions. By no means does this take away from the achievements of our male counterparts, but when women rally behind each other, amazing things happen. We promote supporting all local, reputable businesses, but this is a neat opportunity to showcase a minority group in the business community.

All women are powerful—stay-at-home moms and business owners alike. As a business publication, we feel it’s our duty to run these types of features, and we look forward to continuing to expand our editorial calendar in this direction.

Before you dive into learning more about the dynamic women featured in this issue, here are a few statistics we gathered key women in business stats for 2022 from EarthWeb (earthweb.com/women-in-business-statistics):

  • In 2018, there were 12.3 million female-owned businesses in the United States.
  • 42% of all American small businesses are women-owned and operated.
  • Women-owned businesses grew by 114% between 1997 and 2017.
  • Female entrepreneurship has been growing at a rate of 5%.
  • In 2021, 1,821 new female-owned businesses were started each day.
  • Women own 4 out of 10 firms in America.
Women are more apt to launch a business than men 47% to 44%.
  • 50% of women-owned firms are focused in 3 industries.
  • The women-owned business sector with the highest growth rate is in healthcare, at 151% growth.

These stats can be both telling and encouraging to all of us. We are pushing towards a future where women are not underestimated or underrepresented in the business world. The rise of female entrepreneurs over the past decade has proved that women are amazing business people, according to the above statistics.

Many of the following women were brought to our attention by their colleagues, clients, staff, friends, or family. It’s clear that they have touched the lives of many through their work and their passions. All of these women felt strongly enough to invest in their own stories and share them with our readers. We are honored to have this opportunity to present them to you here.

Please join us in celebrating the following women-owned businesses in Omaha. Read their story, support their work, and do business with them. Who knows, one of them might even become your future mentor! We also encourage women in business to check out the resources available to them in the community, including the Metro Omaha Women’s Business Center.

Some may describe insurance as a “necessary evil”. It’s that “thing” we are required to carry, whether it’s the State forcing us to insure our vehicles or the mortgage company requiring us to insure our homes. State Farm (www.insurewithtanya.com) Agent Tanya Patzner understands this.

“At the end of the day, what my team sells is a claim—a promise to be there when something happens,” said Tanya.

Tanya grew up in small-town Iowa. She went to work for State Farm right out of college and spent 15 years in various positions within claims before deciding to become an agent in 2009. Her entire family works for State Farm—Tanya’s dad is still the State Farm Agent in her hometown, and her littlest sister works in his office. Her other sister is a claim representative here in Omaha.

“If you cut us, we bleed State Farm red!” said Tanya.

The nearly 30 years Tanya has spent with State Farm, not to mention growing up as an AK (agent’s kid), gives her a unique perspective. She knows the company, knows the products, and knows the people. Tanya is dedicated to ensuring there are no bad surprises.

“It’s important our customers understand what they have, and what they don’t,” said Tanya. “If a customer says, ‘Why didn’t I know—why didn’t you tell me?’, we have failed.”

Tanya’s entire team shares her passion for taking care of their customers. They exist to serve by making a difference in the lives of their customers every day. Having customers say, “My life is better for having known you.” is their mission. Contact Tanya at (402) 333-1866 / tanya@insurewithtanya.com or visit www.insurewithtanya.com to learn more.

Digital Moxie Studio (www.digitalmoxie.studio) is an Omaha-based, woman-owned video production company owned by Margaux Towne. Margaux’s years of storytelling experience, including her time as a reporter and producer for an Orlando-based television station, have made her a dynamic director and leader in the industry.

Margaux earned her degree from Florida State University in interpersonal communications—the science of communication has always fascinated her. Margaux grew up in an extroverted Italian family, and they spent many meals around the dinner table talking and taking turns telling stories. She remembers the thrill of guiding the dinner conversation, having everyone’s eyes on her and, for a few minutes, having her very loud and boisterous family actually listening.

“The fact that a good story can cause your brain to release chemicals that make you feel empathy, love, and happiness is amazing,” said Margaux. “Crafting a great story reaches the humanness in us and can motivate behavior.”

Let Digital Moxie Studio tell your story! Whether you’re in need of a brand video, commercial, documentary, or to live stream your event, we’ll deliver a high quality product you’ll love.
