Mother’s Day in Omaha, Nebraska

This month we’ll be honoring and celebrating all of the amazing mothers that we are blessed to share our lives with, and what better way than with the two staples – gatherings and gifts.

Taking a day to get away from it all and enjoy each other’s company presents the perfect opportunity to go out and do something awesome. One destination that’s especially amazing this time of year is Lied Lodge & Conference Center at Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City. It’s a quick drive to a scenic location that’s full of nature, inspiration, comfort and luxury.  Although Lied Lodge is well known and has received numerous accolades as a full-service meeting facility and wedding venue, it boasts great amenities that are perfect for a Mother’s Day celebration, including guest rooms and suites, a fine dining restaurant, cocktail lounge, indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, spa, fitness center, and nearby golf courses. On top of all of that, we feel that one of the best parts of spending time at Lied Lodge is the staff, who are all friendly and approachable while working diligently to ensure that your time spent there is everything you’d hoped for and more!

Lied Lodge also happens to be interchangeable as both a gathering place and a future getaway as a gift. On the gathering side, Scott Ensor, Front Office Manager at Lied Lodge & Conference Center offers, “When I think of Mother’s Day, I think about ways to take special care of the woman who took care of you for so many years. Two things come to mind: treating her to an exceptional meal (no need for her to prepare it or to bother with the clean-up afterward, of course) and pampering her. I believe our terrific food in the Timber Dining Room, our hot tub, and massages in our on-site spa are an excellent way to do both.

We also recommend the Mother’s Day brunch buffet in the Timber Dining Room here at Lied Lodge. It’s a local favorite for families, and we love to see them enjoying quality time together around the table. After the meal, we often see families exploring our walking trails, relaxing by the fireplace in our lobby, and just enjoying each other’s company.”

As previously mentioned, an exceptional meal is definitely one of the staples of any holiday celebration enjoyed with loved ones. For those whose ideal Mother’s Day is spent grilling, whether it’s at the park, at the lake, or in the comfort of the backyard, making sure the meal is memorable is the ultimate goal. Just Good Meat is your source for all things grilling, offering select cuts of steak, a variety of fish and specialty meats, chicken done just about any way you can think of, and plenty of homemade sides to compliment your entrée choices.

“Our filets seem to be one of our most popular items with the ladies, so we always offer great specials on them for Mother’s Day,” says Sean Fuller, owner of Just Good Meat.  “The spring weather during the month of May is perfect for grilling out, and between the two holidays of Mother’s Day and Memorial Day, everyone is spending quality time with family and friends.  All of that combined makes getting together for a barbecue is the way to go!  If you’re treating Mom to a steak, aside from our bacon-wrapped filets that will be available at our special price of $4.35 each, we also have plenty of other great cuts of steaks as well as fresh fish and chicken—when it comes to meat, it’s no surprise that we have all of the bases covered!  If impressive is what you’re shooting for, our T-bones and ribeyes will fit the bill nicely and will be on sale for $9.99/lb. Speaking of specials, we will also be bringing back our Sweetheart Package especially for Mother’s Day, which includes two 5 oz. filets, two twice-baked potatoes and two 7-8 oz. lobster tails for just $42.99.  Stop in and let us help you put together a delicious meal that the special mothers in your life are sure to love!”

It’s important to note that the best part about local entertainment venues is that they double as the gathering destination or as the place to find your Mother’s Day gift. Moreover, while there are plenty of potential gifts that would be suitable for the mom you want to spoil, the next best thing isn’t really a “thing” at all – it’s an experience. As previously mentioned, spending time together is likely at the very top of the list in terms of any mother’s favorite things to do on a Sunday (or any day, really!). However, you could also consider giving the gift of a future experience, or in other words, give your mother the gift of travel!

When it comes to travelling, there are many ways you could potentially approach the planning side, but as one might assume, it’s just a little bit different if it’s going to be a surprise gift. Unless you’ve already planted the seed and are absolutely positive of the dates that will work with mom’s schedule (and everyone else who will be going for that matter), it’s best to keep your gift open-ended. This might include creatively presenting a travel brochure of the cruise or destination that you’ll eventually be purchasing on her behalf, or if it’s available, a gift certificate to the travel agency you’ll be working with to secure all of the details at a later date, as just a couple of the possibilities.  Cruises in particular are generally non-refundable, and it’s best to not plan on being able to change a passenger’s name once booked, so leaving the details to be determined at a later date will not only afford you flexibility but will ensure that you don’t have to deal with any setbacks or incur any losses, which can be a huge let-down. If a trip isn’t in your budget, you could also consider purchasing mom a passport if she doesn’t already have one. While you can’t actually purchase a passport on behalf of another party, you can download the necessary forms online and provide the funds so the process is easy and exciting. A passport is good for 10 years and will take your mom and her company (hopefully it’s you!) anywhere in the world. As it often works, once you have a passport in-hand and that process is out of the way, the world becomes your oyster! If any of this sounds appealing, because travelling is such an amazing way to spend time with family and make memories that will last a lifetime, be sure to work with a local travel agency so that you know what to expect and get exactly what you’ve bargained for when everything is all said and done. When working with a professional you’ll be exposed to a wealth of ideas, even ones that may not have previously been on your radar. You’ll also be able to aptly compare prices and amenities between destinations, get all of your questions answered, and you won’t be in for any unexpected surprises when the date you’re embarking on your trip has finally arrived later on down the line.

We wish all of the mothers out there a perfect day filled with love, happiness, plenty of special moments, and of course, enjoyable gatherings and great gifts! However, no matter how you choose to spend the day, or how much you spend on a gift, the most important part is showing your mom just how much she is appreciated and loved in whatever way is most fitting. As such, just about anything that comes from the heart will do!
