Sump Memorial Library in Papillion celebrated 90 years of continuous library service to the City of Papillion during the month of August with a Kid’s Birthday Bash, Anniversary Open House, Sarpy County Chamber of Commerce Lunch and Learn with Infogroup, Book Booth and 1968 Mustang convertible car mascot at Brownies Bar and Grill 4th Annual Car Show and a Sarpy County Chamber of Commerce Ribbon cutting.

The events were held to celebrate a community that honors and supports literacy by providing funding for excellent library service. Part of this support comes from volunteers who serve on the Library Board, the Papillion Library Foundation board, the Friends of the Library board and bookstore, and as library helpers.  Over seven hundred people total attended the events.

Sump Memorial Library is a 23,000 square foot public library located in downtown Papillion. The building that houses the library was built in 1996. The library has over 60,000 items in its collection, an online presence including downloadable ebooks and provides programming for all ages. The library is busier than ever and has exceeded last year’s check out total by over 10,000 items! The library installed a rain garden at its entrance in 2010 with the help of community grants as part of a library enhancement project.
