Physicians Mutual started in 1902 in Omaha. At that time the company offered insurance to medical professionals, but now it provides coverage to people from all walks of life. Starting as a small company, Physicians Mutual has now grown to offer insurance to millions of Americans. It’s also one of the nation’s leading health and life insurance providers and is rated in the top 1% of insurance companies. The Company has seen a lot of growth over the last 109 years, and is proud to be headquartered right here in Omaha.

What do you think makes you different from other companies similar to yours?
One of the things I’m most proud of is our 97% customer satisfaction rating. The survey was conducted in 2010 by an independent analyst (Wiese Research Associates), and it shows we deliver on the promise of great coverage and great customer service. The survey also showed that 9 out of 10 of our customers would recommend us to a friend or family member – we’re really proud our customers feel so strongly about us.

Another thing that distinguishes us is we’re a mutual company, which means we’re owned by our customers. When we make business decisions, it’s our customers’ interests that come first.

Physicians Mutual is also rated in the top 1% of insurance companies by Weiss Ratings. Not many companies can say that.

What do you like about doing business in the Omaha area?
So many exciting things are happening in Omaha. One of those exciting developments is Aksarben Village near 65th and Center, where our Omaha Sales Office is located. We love the small-town feel of the development and the great mix of office, retail and living spaces.

We also love the way the area inspires a sense of community, as people gather for public events and farmer’s markets. In fact, Physicians Mutual was the presenting sponsor for the Holiday Market on Dec. 3-4.

What kind of community organizations/groups are you involved with?
Physicians Mutual employees and agents have a strong commitment to giving back to our community. At Physicians Mutual, we support the annual United Way of the Midlands campaign and Little Brothers — Friends of the Elderly, a non-profit, volunteer-based organization that helps relieve isolation and loneliness among the elderly.

Do you have a business philosophy or mission statement?
Our philosophy can be boiled down to the three guarantees we live by every day: “We do the right thing,” “We listen, we care” and “We deliver the promise.” It’s standing by these promises that truly makes us a customer-focused company that always has their best interests at heart.

What is one goal for your business that you have yet to accomplish?
My goal for the Omaha Sales Office is to grow our staff to more than 100 agents. We’re always looking for agents who are talented at really listening to a person’s needs and want to improve their lives. At the end of the day, we’re providing our customers with a safer, brighter future, and that’s a pretty good feeling.
