The Corky Canvas is proud to be Nebraska’s first Paint and Wine Studio! The original location in Lincoln, which has been open for approximately two years, was so successful that owner Angie Lewis decided to venture into the Omaha community. She officially opened the second location of The Corky Canvas at Midtown Crossing in February of 2013. While Angie oversees both the Lincoln and Omaha locations, Erin Schager is the manager of the Omaha studio and together have developed a unique group of extremely talented art instructors and bartenders whose goal is to cultivate a fun and non-intimidating approach to art.
Tell us a little about your business. – At The Corky Canvas, we believe that art is for everyone! When you arrive at The Corky Canvas, you will be walked, step-by-step, through the night’s featured painting while sipping wine or beer and listening to great music. No painting experience is necessary–really! The Corky Canvas is perfect for a girls’ night out, date night, team building or company holiday parties, or just to relax and try something new! While the next few months will be mainly booked for holiday office parties, we enjoy hosting special events and parties year-round for local businesses and organizations that are looking for a fresh, new idea.
What has been your most important achievement as a business? – It has definitely been rewarding to get so many people in the community interested in art who may have never considered it before. Omaha has welcomed us with open arms and we are grateful to be part of such a fun-loving and adventurous city of people who are excited to try new things! You may not think you’re artistic, but we hope to give many people the opportunity to find out. Starting a second location in Omaha and working hard to make it a success has been a major achievement as well. We hope to continue to grow and meet even more great people in the Omaha community as we strive to cultivate long-lasting business relationships and make Midtown Crossing an even more desirable destination!
What is one of the biggest challenges that your company has faced? – Likewise, our biggest challenge is convincing people that you don’t have to be an artist to enjoy our studio! Most people who walk through our door say, “I can’t even draw a stick figure!” Then, the next day, they tell us, “My husband doesn’t believe I actually painted this!” Our studio is more about the experience then the painting–it’s a lot of fun and ANYONE can do it!!
What is the most unique or interesting thing about your business that most people don’t know? – Most people don’t realize that in addition to our classes and events, we organize office outings, team buildings, and company holiday parties at our studio. You can enjoy a meal at one of Midtown Crossings great restaurants beforehand or cater in your own food during the event.
What do you see happening with your business in the next five years? – We love being in Omaha now and are proud to be member of the Omaha Chamber of Commerce. Our goal is to continue to grow in Omaha and make lasting connections among other businesses and within the community, and we hope to provide Omaha residents with an unforgettable experience at The Corky Canvas for many years to come!
