UNICO Group is one of the largest locally owned insurance and risk management firms in Nebraska. They represent many companies and are able to provide their clients with many choices for insurance solutions and advice in order to best protect their personal or business assets. Tom Greco is an Account Executive for UNICO Group.
How did you get started in the business? – As an agent when the family agency started to grow. I made the decision in 1985 to come into the agency and am proud to say my dad, who just turned 91, still works every day in the agency.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Explaining the importance of having a sound insurance program to our clients before they experience a loss. As an advisor, our biggest rush is when a client has a loss and we had a program in place to provide coverage.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Having the opportunity to merge our family insurance operation with UNICO Group in 2009 and being able to use their resources to provide more options for my clients.
Tell me a little about your family. – My wife, Sharon, and I just celebrated our 40th anniversary and we have two wonderful children, Lisa and Steve.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Making a decision to teach some insurance courses not only helped me become a better advisor to my clients, but I was also pretty good at getting the students and future insurance professionals engaged in the classes.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Walking or biking around the lakes in Omaha.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – Some of my friends and I have the best tailgate set up for Husker football—we have even trademarked our name as the Husketeers! Our tailgate is located at 9th and S Street in Lincoln and we serve an average of 400 people a game.
What are you the most proud of? – Watching both of my children have successful careers and enjoying life.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Energetic, I seem to have an unlimited amount of energy.
If you had a theme song, what would it be? – Funiculì, Funiculà (I love my Italian heritage!)
If you could have a super power, what would it be? – I would love to be able to fly.
Which talent would you most like to have? – Artistic talent. My father, brother and son are all great artists and somehow it passed me by.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I would have loved to be a teacher or college professor.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson
What is your favorite movie? – Sideways, co-written and directed by Alexander Payne
What is your favorite TV show? – I love the comedy of Franklin & Bash on TNT.
What is your favorite local restaurant? – Lo Sole Mio, I really do love all things Italian.
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – After reading the book and seeing what he accomplished in his life, I would love to have dinner with Steve Jobs.
