McGill Restoration Inc. has been in business since 1985, and currently employs approximately 65 concrete and masonry restoration professionals.  With annual revenues of approximately $9 million, McGill Restoration is a recognized industry leader in the rehabilitation and preservation of concrete and masonry structures.  Timothy F. McGill is the President and co-owner of McGill Restoration, Inc.

Tell us a little about your business. – McGill Restoration is a family business that is currently owned by myself and my brother, Rich McGill.  We specialize in concrete and masonry restoration as well as many specialty coating systems, and have offices in both Lincoln and Omaha.

How did you get started in the business? – My father, Tim (Timothy P.) McGill, started the company and I began working for him my junior year of high school.  I worked in the field throughout high school and while I was in college at UNO, where I obtained an Engineering degree.  I then moved from the field to the office and began my career in 2001.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Learning to delegate responsibilities properly.  We have a very capable workforce and extremely talented leadership.  Letting our key executives take on more responsibility has been rewarding for our company and for each of them individually.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – McGill Restoration has doubled in volume and profitability over the last ten years.  We have done this while maintaining our high standards of quality and workmanship.

Tell us a little about your family. – My wife Jodie is an attorney and she owns McGill Law PC, LLO.  She is also corporate counsel at McGill Restoration.  We have three kids:  Collin (7), Elana (5), and Jude (4 mos.).

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Having kids was the biggest turning point.  Our priorities as a couple in all areas of our life changed once we became parents.  Our kids keep us very busy and we are very proud of them.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Hang out with family and friends.  We spend a lot of time at the pool and at various youth sporting events.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I have flown against several of my good friends in air to air combat.  This was done with real acrobatic fighter planes and we were traveling at nearly 5 G’s.

What are you the most proud of? – I am most proud of the good reputation we have built for McGill Restoration.  We are known as a quality specialty contractor and as a great place to work.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Loyal.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “Eye of the Tiger”.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – Athleticism.

Which talent would you most like to have? – Photographic memory.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Real estate development.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Traction: Get A Grip On Your Business by Gino Wickman.  We now use that book as a tool for our strategic planning.

What is your favorite movie? – Gladiator.

What is your favorite TV show? – My son and I like to watch American Ninja Warrior.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Do it right the first time.
