Because of her genuine respect for our elder population and her desire to make a difference in their lives, Tammy Weston decided to make a career in this field and is now the Executive Director of Nebraska Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation.  Nebraska Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation is a Skilled Nursing Facility that provides some long term care but specializes in assisting individual’s transition from the hospital to their homes.  In many cases, patients require additional rehabilitation such as physical or occupational therapy perhaps as a result of a fall or some type of pre-planned orthopedic surgery, prior to going home safely.   In other situations, there may be complex nursing needs to be addressed as a result of but not limited  to stroke, heart disease,  transplants,  pnemonia,or other respiratory or gastric  conditions just to name a few examples.  They are proud to be offering services to the community and actually assisted over 300 individuals from hospital to home in 2011 alone.

Tell me a little about your family.
I hail from rural South West IA.  I come from a large family of wonderful, kind, hardworking individuals who instilled the core values that I live by today.  I have three beautiful daughters who are everything to me.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
The birth of my second child.  I think having a child a little later in life  allowed me to really appreciate that there is so much more to success than just establishing a family and achieving professional goals.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
First and foremost spending time with the children, but when I set aside a little time for me, I enjoy exercising, reading, or just watching a good movie!

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I served in Desert Storm.

What are you the most proud of?
My service to my country and my children.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
You can do anything if you put your mind to it.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
I would like to participate in RAGBRI. I grew up in IA and it’s just one of those bucket list items!

If you could have a super power, what would it be?
I would like the ability to heal.

What are your plans after retirement?
I love to travel and can’t wait to have the time to really take my time and enjoy it!

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?
I have no hidden talents, I try to incorporate all of my best qualities in everything I do everyday.  I take that back- I do juggle…but I’m not very good at it!

Which talent would you most like to have?
I would like to be able to sing better.  At this point in time, my stage is my driver’s seat when I am in the car ALONE!

Fried Green Tomatoes- love that era…the simple life.
