Sam & Louie’s is a casual, New York style pizzeria that is dedicated to providing a dining experience based on tradition, good service, family and fun. Tammy Nun is the owner of Sam & Louie’s downtown Omaha location and is also the Marketing Director for Dough Pac Inc., the franchising company for Sam and Louie’s.

Tell us a little about your business. – My husband and I own the Sam and Louie’s New York Pizzeria in downtown Omaha located at 2418 Cuming Street.  We purchased this location in 2011 from the previous franchisees.  I am also the Marketing Director for the Sam and Louie’s Franchising Company, Dough Pac Inc. which was founded and remains headquartered here in Omaha. In addition to being a top quality family, neighborhood pizzeria we at Sam and Louie’s provide full service catering for a wide range of events.

How did you get started in the business? – I began my journey with Sam and Louie’s as a child.  I officially started working as a dishwasher at age 14, the summer before beginning high school at Westside.  Over the years I worked through the ranks and have done a little of everything, but found my passion to be in marketing and networking for the restaurants.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Working with your spouse definitely has its challenges, but it’s also one of the most secure feelings you can have because you know that no matter what at the end of the day you are always on the same team.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Through the years and in my various roles, I’ve had the opportunity to develop and work with a lot of people.  Knowing that you’ve helped someone grow, personally or professionally, is rewarding.  It’s a great feeling when we go for a store visit with one of our franchisees and leave knowing that our presence and guidance has made a difference and improved their ability to be successful.

Tell us a little about your family. – We have two kids and one more on the way–by the time you’re reading this he will likely be here!  I’m from a big family and everyone is very close; in fact, many of us work together!

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Becoming a business owner has definitely been a turning point.  I’ve gained a much greater understanding of what our Sam & Louie’s franchisees go through and the challenges they face.  This has given me a new perspective and way of doing my job as the franchise’s marketing director.  Learning a few lessons the hard way definitely helps you to grow professionally and personally!

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – We love heading to the zoo with the kids!

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I love music and going to concerts and music festivals.  However, between three kids, owning a business, and having a full-time job there isn’t exactly much time for that these days!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – I don’t think I can break it down into one piece of advice, but my high school marketing teacher and DECA sponsor was one of the most positive, motivating people I’ve ever met.  His curriculum was based around the wisdom of Zig Ziglar and I still use Ziglar quotes and materials on a daily basis.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – If it’s not pizza we’re eating, I’m a sucker for Asian food!
