River City 6: Susie Hultgren

Elk Ridge Village is a retirement community located in Elkhorn just north of 192nd and Dodge that offers Independent Living, Assisted Living and Special Memory Care. Providing quality of life in senior care since 2006, Elk Ridge village provides individualized care in a safe, worry free environment. Susie Hultgren is the Director of Human Resources at Elk Ridge Village.

How did you get started the business? – I came to Elk Ridge Village 8 ½ years ago as a receptionist because I always enjoyed spending time with my grandparents.  Also I knew that I would be meeting a lot of new people which is so exciting.

What has been you most important achievement professionally? – As Operations Manager now, just seeing the growth in our teammates in their care and compassion with the residents bringing it to the highest quality of standard.

Tell us a little about your family. – I have a wonderful husband Steve.  We have two boys that we are very proud of and soon we will be welcoming two new daughters-in-law into our family.  Our daughter and son-in-law live close by with our two beautiful granddaughters.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Spending time with my family and friends watching sports, especially Nebraska football, and antique shopping.

What is the most unique thing or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I was a lifeguard in high school in a small town and saved three people from drowning.

What are you most proud of? – That would definitely be my family!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Don’t just assume something – get the facts.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Peacekeeper.

If you had a super power, what would it be? – Healing power.

What is your great talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I really enjoy decorating our home for the holidays. In fact, I’m proud to say I am an owner of 17 Christmas trees.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Private Investigator.

What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I like to donate baked goods and other items needed to Care Core.  I also like to donate to other causes when the need arises whether it is food, clothing or toys.  My parents taught me to always help others in need.

What is your favorite book or the last good book your read? – The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks.

What is your favorite movie? – Remember the Titans.

What is your favorite TV show? – ESPN College GameDay during the college football season.

What is your favorite restaurant? – Farmer Brown’s Steak House in Waterloo.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Walter Payton.
