After spending 23 years in the broadcast industry, Scott Farkas and his wife Mimi, a doctor of Sociology, looked into owning their own company.  They researched some companies and found that Valpak blew everyone else out of the water, so they bought the Valpak business for the Omaha area.  Valpak is best known by their famous Blue Envelope that you receive every month in your home.  They currently mail 190,000 to upscale homes in Douglas, Sarpy and Pottawattamie counties.  Valpak reaches the most and the highest income homes in the Omaha metro.  They also have Valpak.com and Valpak Deals, attracting more than 200,000 unique IP addresses per month.

Tell us a little about your family. – Mimi and I have five children ranging in age from 26 to 14. We still have two at home. Mimi and I have been married seven years. Our #3 son is 24 and married. We also have a one-year-old grandchild.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Leaving broadcasting after 23 years and meeting and marrying Mimi all in the same timeframe.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – What is a day off? Time with Mimi and the kids. Love Sunday.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I grew up around Federal prisons. My dad was a prison warden, as a result I attended 12 schools in Maryland, Florida, California, and New Jersey growing up. I then got a scholarship for my limited abilities on a trumpet to Ole Miss.  Yes I was paid to go to SEC football and basketball games. It was very cool.

What are you the most proud of? – Cleo and Isaac (the kids still at home with us) and our amazing sales team.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – He can who thinks he can.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish? – Help find a cure for ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – To make everyone smile every day.

What are your plans for retirement? – That is funny. I am pretty sure I will die behind my computer or on a sales call trying help grow someone’s business.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – My work life is my life, isn’t it that the way for everyone who enjoys what they do? If you don’t enjoy what you do, you should find something else. Life is too short. I love what we do. It’s a great day when an advertiser says thank you for helping their business succeed.

Which talent would you most like to have? – I would love to play great guitar with a voice to go with it.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – The Ultimate Sales Machine by Chet Holmes. Fits our business perfectly.

What is your favorite movie? – Patton. No explanation needed.

What is your favorite TV show? – Weeds.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – I refuse to answer on the grounds that I would surely offend someone.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Rich DeVos the founder of AmWay (I have met him, but would love an in depth conversation with him).
