Union Bank & Trust Company was founded in 1917 and has been owned and operated by the Dunlap family since 1965. Union Bank is the 7th largest bank and the 3rd largest family owned bank in Nebraska, and is proud to offer complete banking, lending, investment, and trust services. Samantha Mosser is the Omaha Regional President of Union Bank & Trust.
How did you get started in the business? – I began my banking career at a large regional bank as a Management Trainee. I was promoted to a Residential Mortgage Lender then to a Private Banking Officer during my tenure there. I then moved to Union Bank & Trust as an Assistant Vice President in the Commercial Real Estate Group where I was then promoted to Vice President of Commercial Real Estate, Omaha Regional Manager, and finally Regional President.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – The ‘Great Recession’ of 2009. I spent a majority of my banking career in commercial real estate lending and that particular market was hit hard during the recession. We had several borrowers who experienced hardship. I learned a lot during the downturn from UBT ownership and senior management.
Tell us a little about your family. – I have been married to Mitch Mosser for 16 years and we have three children: Neal (9), Major (7), and Maddux (5).
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I love to watch my children at their sporting activities: basketball, baseball, soccer, football, golf, swimming, etc.
What are you the most proud of? – My children.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – From 2003 to 2007 I served as an Adjunct Professor at Nebraska Wesleyan University teaching economics courses in the evenings. I have a huge passion for education and would like to teach again in retirement.
What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I am on the boards of Child Savings Institute and Community Alliance. I became involved with Child Savings Institute because my father was a foster child and I want to help other children who are in the same situation he experienced. I joined the Community Alliance Board because I have a family member who has struggled with severe depression their whole life and Community Alliance’s mission is to help individuals with mental illness achieve their unique potential, and to live, work, learn, and contribute in a community of mutual support.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – The Women of Berkshire Hathaway: Lessons from Warren Buffett’s Female CEOs and Directors by Karen Linder.
What is your favorite TV show? – Shark Tank.
