Meet Terry Bush, Chief Academic Officer at CUES Schools (cuesschools.org).

Tell us a little about your business. – CUES was founded in 1975 when community business leaders came together and formed CUES, a separate 501c3 to solicit support from corporations and foundations to assist Sacred Heart School. In 2012, CUES added All Saints and Holy Name Schools to the CUES funding mission. In 2018, CUES became two separate organizations, CUES School System and CUES Fund. CUES is a bold educational initiative providing centralized leadership and governance to three underserved elementary schools in Omaha supporting a majority of low-income students and families.

How did you get started in the business? – I was formerly the principal of Sacred Heart and became the Chief of Academic Officer. I find the mission of CUES really inspiring and love the support that CUES brings to students and families in the community.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Professionals not being professional.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I piloted a program at a previous job that is still active today.

Tell us a little about your family. – I was born and raised in Omaha with my three siblings.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Coming to CUES.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Go out to eat at restaurants in Omaha and read a book.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I have a tattoo of angel on my shoulder.

Who inspires you? – My uncle.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Let go, let God.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Genuine.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “Unstoppable” by Sia.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Become invisible.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – Art.

Which talent would you most like to have? – Play the piano.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I would love to be an interior designer.

What local nonprofit organizations are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I am involved with CUES and Emergency Pregnancy service because I am inspired by their missions.
