Meet Tanner Belt, Assistant Vice President, Branch Manager at West Gate Bank (westgate.bank).

Tell us a little about your business. – West Gate Bank is a family-owned community bank, founded in 1968 in Lincoln. Community banking has been our focus for over 50 years. We have six locations in Lincoln and four locations in the Omaha Metro. West Gate Bank is a full-service bank, so whether you need a checking/savings account, commercial loan, mortgage loan or anything in between, we are here for you!

How did you get started in the business? – I started at a local bank as a part time teller while attending some classes and quickly gained a passion for helping people. I was lucky to have a boss who invested time into me and teach me all about banking, products and customer service. I took that knowledge and quickly gained experience working up through the retail side of banking. I have been blessed with wonderful peers who helped me along the way and continue to be surrounded by wonderful people here at West Gate Bank.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Learning more about what it is to lead and helping my team step into their roles. As the newest branch and location, we have had wonderful opportunities to grow, deliver excellent client experiences and hit our goals. Seeing my team get excited and have success is an amazing feat!

Tell us a little about your family. – There is nothing more important than my family. This year, my wife and I will be celebrating our seven-year anniversary. We have been blessed with two beautiful children and another on the way. We’re excited even though we will soon be outnumbered!

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Spending time doing fun activities with my wife and kids. We enjoy playing in the yard, making fun crafts and of course going to the zoo!

Who inspires you? – I am constantly inspired by my beautiful wife, who challenges me to be better every day. She’s honest, kind and chooses the right no matter the situation. I have also been lucky enough to have wonderful parents who have been an example of hard work and serving others.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – My Track and Field coach once asked me to look in the mirror daily and ask myself, “Did you get better today?” This has been a consistent driving force in all aspects of my life to constantly be honest and achieve more every day.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Reliable.

What is your favorite movie? – Tommy Boy.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – Bags of Fun Omaha (bagsoffunomaha.org) is an organization that is dedicated to delivering relief and joy to children fighting a long term or life-threatening condition. I have been able to take part in filling a “Bag of Fun” on multiple occasions. It is an amazing experience. They take the time to learn all about these children and deliver a bag that is unique to them.
