Meet Shelby Lodholz, CEO and Owner at Shelby Lodholz Consulting (shelbylodholzLnc.com).
Tell us a little about your business. – I have been a nurse for over 20 years, specializing in Critical Care, Procedural Care, Preoperative care and PACU(Post-Anesthesia Care Unit), among many other specialties. So now attorneys in medical malpractice, personal injury, workman’s compensation and product liability hire me to assist them with the medical portion of the case.
How did you get started in the business? – I wanted to use my experience and knowledge to assist the medical community. I did not want to return to school to spend more time away from my family. I found a mentorship program that taught me how to be a legal nurse consultant, start, run and grow my business and market to my ideal clients.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – People want to work with people they like, know and trust. So, the biggest challenge is marketing to my ideal clients in a way that they learn to know, like and trust me.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I built my business from nothing, believing in myself, working hard and pushing through all the self-doubt and self-limiting beliefs that can arise when starting a business.
Tell us a little about your family. – I have been married to Matt for 16 years. We have two boys, Sam (12) and Miles (7). We live on a farm north of Valley. We have laying hens, beehives, a dog, a couple of cats, and a chinchilla.
What do you see as one of the most significant turning points in your life? – Starting a family was number one. Starting a company is number two.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I enjoy anything outside with my boys: swimming in the summer, skiing or sledding in the winter and watching them play sports in the fall or spring.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I am very social and extroverted, but I love being alone outside in nature.
Who inspires you? – Anyone who takes action to improve their life instead of sitting around and complaining about it, someone who steps out of their comfort zone and takes the challenge to enrich their life.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Where there is a will, there is a way.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered, what would it be? – Determined.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – Our country has countless resources for people. Food is not a scarce resource, and I help donate and serve at Open Door Mission.
What is your favorite TV show? – The Office.
What is your favorite local Omaha restaurant? – Dolce prefixed menu.
