Meet Shae Withington, Writer and Editor at Strictly Business (strictlybusinessomaha.com).
Tell us a little about your business. – Strictly Business is a local news and direct marketing magazine in Omaha and Lincoln. We are all about branding names and faces because people like to do business with people they know, like and trust. We are proud of our reputation as a reliable and positive publication and grateful for the opportunity to promote so many amazing local businesses and organizations in print and online each month.
How did you get started in the business? – I’ve always had a passion for reading and writing. I went to college with the goal of becoming an editor at some point in my life, and was also hoping to do some professional journalism as well. With my education and experience being in English and marketing, I was so excited to start working for Strictly Business where I can utilize most of my skills and have my hands in a variety of tasks.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Being so young, I have struggled to be seen as a professional and am grateful to Paige for giving me the opportunity to thrive here at Strictly Business. My age doesn’t define my capabilities!
Tell us a little about your family. – I grew up in Colorado where my dad farms and ranches and my mom works for the local electric cooperative. My older brother currently lives in Arizona. Growing up a ways outside of town, my brother and I kept each other company and got into all kinds of trouble playing together. We cause less trouble now that we are older and live far away from each other, but definitely still have some pretty interesting conversations.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I have two cats that I try to devote a good chunk of my free time to. Whether playing or cuddling, they are good company on days off. I also enjoy outdoor activities such as walks and golf, reading and yoga.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – I tend to get stressed fairly easily. The best advice I’ve received, and something I’m working on, is to not stress about things that are out of my control. Everything will work out in the end and that’s all that matters. Even if the journey is bumpy, everything will be okay and I’ll walk away with new knowledge and experience that I can apply later on in life.
If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “Mended” by Matthew West.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? – I would love to be able to read minds. I’m a naturally curious person that doesn’t like being out of the loop.
Which talent would you most like to have? – I wish I could sing well. I would love to do karaoke. Currently, I refuse to do karaoke because I’m scared of getting run off the stage.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – I’m currently reading Shadowed by Grace: A Story of Monuments Men by Cara Putman. It is an amazing book.
What is your favorite movie? – I’m currently obsessed with the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast.
