Meet Luke Mitchell, VP of Private Mortgage Banking at Cornhusker Bank (cornhusker.bank).
Tell us a little about your business. – I open doors to the American dream! I help my clients with mortgage financing. A mortgage is the largest financial obligation for most people and I take pride in helping them determine the best strategy to align with their financial goals.
How did you get started in the business? – I worked as a telemarketer for a mortgage company during college. I would call homeowners and ask if they were interested in refinancing their mortgage. The experience gave me glimpse into the mortgage industry and I became very intrigued. When I finished college, I decided to work full-time at the mortgage company and become a Mortgage Loan Officer. My degree is in Computer Programming, but I found the mortgage industry was a much better fit. I love working with finances, housing and people!
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – The mortgage industry is very cyclical and market driven. Maintaining exceptional customer service can be difficult during the busy times, but that is one of the factors that sets my team apart from our competitors.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I’m proud of the work that has been accomplished by the Nebraska Mortgage Association. I just completed my first year on the board of directors.
Tell us a little about your family. – My wife, Kellsi, and I are both lifelong Nebraskans. Our blended family has four kids from age 12 to 23.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – I feel incredibly blessed to have found the mortgage industry. Working for a small, entrepreneurial company gave me so much perspective and made me more well-rounded. I learned the importance of customer service, marketing, budgeting and so much more.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I love to spend time with my family. We like to attend sporting events and play golf when we have free time.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – My playlist is full of 90’s music! I love everything from alternative grunge to rap!
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Impactful. My dream is to make a positive impact on the world for my family, clients and community.
What is your favoriate movie? – My list of favorites includes The Breakfast Club, Ocean’s Eleven, Dumb & Dumber, and Step Brothers…but if I had to choose just one, I would go with Blow.
