Meet Brian Savoy, the Market President at AltCap (altcap.org).

Tell us a little about your business (in your own words). – AltCap is short for Alternative Capital. We are a Midwest based Community Development Financial Institution. We empower underserved entrepreneurs by providing accessibility to pursue their dreams and help our communities thrive.

How did you get started in the business? – I have always supported the small business community. From banking to insurance to merchant services, I have been drawn to the hustle and work ethic of the entrepreneur. I am now lucky to continue this work as the Market President at AltCap

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I was asked to attend the Economic Inclusivity Council at the FDIC. It was amazing to see the common sense discussions happening between the public and private sectors, government, and non-profits, centered around how we help support and uplift our traditionally disenfranchised communities.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I am a crazy music nut. I started collecting music at a young age and could retain lyrics very quickly. That prompted me to start my own DJ company in high school. I enjoy all types and genres, and a great teammate for trivia night.

Who inspires you? – My parents. I am lucky to have amazing role models in my mom and my dad. They taught me resiliency, humility, compassion, love, trust, and perseverance; not just in word, but through example. They are fierce critics and the best cheerleaders. As the eldest of 7, I was the guinea pig; but they always supported us in unique ways. They are still my speed dial for help or advice.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “People will often forget what you did or said; but they will never forget how you made them feel.” – Maya Angelou

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Altruistic

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – Lean on Me – Bill Withers

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I don’t feel like I get to use my imagination as much as I would like. There is space for creative problem solving almost every day; But significant time of pure wonder, awe, inspired passions, art, and life? I wish I made more time for that.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I am proud of our non-profit community. I sit on the board for Growing Futures Early Education Center, where we nurture children and strengthen families to enrich our community. There is also The Golden Scoop. This coffee and ice cream shop employs uniquely abled individuals and provides them with meaningful employment and growth opportunities. There are so many, doing such good work. These are just two that are close to me.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Rick Ruben or Quincy Jones. I can’t decide.

If our readers would like to contact you, how should they do so? – altcap.org; LinkedIn; Or you can follow my Instagram at “the_professional_peopler.”
