Meet Ben Tiffany, reasury Management Sales Officer at Bankers Trust (bankerstrust.com).

Tell us a little about your business. – I sell commercial banking products that help business customers achieve optimal financial success–speeding up receivables and reconciling efficiently-delaying payables while maintaining quality vendor relationships to improve cash conversion cycles, streamlining payables processes, optimizing liquidity management and protecting their accounts from the ever-present threat of fraud.

How did you get started in the business? – Like a lot of people in banking, I fell into this industry by accident. I was an assistant manager at a restaurant/brewery and got tired of working weekends and long hours. One of our servers at the time recommended banking, and now, here I am!

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Earning my Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) credential in 2023. CTP is offered through the Association of Financial Professionals and sets the standard in the financial profession. It signifies that I have demonstrated the knowledge and skills required to perform competently in today’s complex treasury environment, had the self-discipline to study and pass a rigorous examination, agreed to abide by a professional code of ethical conduct and that I am committed to keeping my knowledge current by meeting continuing education requirements.

Tell us a little about your family. – My wife and I met and got married in 2011 when we were both living in Colorado. She is from Omaha and I’m from the Fort Collins, CO area. Our kids are 12, 10 and 8. We also have a dog, two cats, a bearded dragon and two small fish tanks.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – First, deciding to step away from college baseball at the University of South Dakota after my freshman year. Without that decision, I never would have had my restaurant job that eventually took me to Denver, where I met my wife. The second major turning point was stepping away from a career in the restaurant industry to start as a part-time teller in banking.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I enjoy my kids’ activities, even though it comes with a hectic schedule–softball, basketball, ninja warrior classes, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. I also enjoy going to a lake and swimming, fishing and relaxing or hanging out on the back deck at home with friends on a summer day.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – Make-A-Wish Nebraska. I’m currently the Committee Chair for the Young Leaders Council which is a committee in charge of planning an annual fundraising event to help grant wishes. When my nephew was 3 years old, he was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, which started as a tumor in his abdomen but then spread throughout his body. I joined Make-A-Wish not long after his diagnosis and eventually helped my sister get connected with Make-A-Wish Colorado who granted his wish to go swim with dolphins a few months before he passed away. Make-A-Wish is an incredible organization that provides hope to kids with critical illnesses and a much needed break from painful and often agonizing treatments.
