Meet Avery Carl, a Content Writer at Strictly Business (strictlybusinessomaha.com).

Tell us a little about your business. – Strictly Business is a local news and direct marketing magazine that supplies the area with relevant and current business information. It’s a great way to keep up with the local business community. The publication contains vital Lincoln and Omaha business information and is mailed into the hands of every CEO, business owner and key executives in each city.

How did you get started in the business? - I’ve always loved reading and writing, but it wasn’t until I started college that I discovered that I had a passion for journalism and storytelling. I was searching for internships and came across this lovely place, and I’ve been here ever since!

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? - Working at the Henry Doorly Zoo through COVID-19 definitely wasn’t a walk in the park, but I’m glad I did it.

Tell us a little about your family. – I grew up in Omaha with my parents, two sisters—my twin and little sister—and our cat Phoebe. I have extended family all over Nebraska, so it’s always fun driving across the state for the holidays.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? - When I moved out of my parents’ house and into my own home. I think it’s really helped me work towards my goals.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I love going to concerts. If there’s any artist I know within driving distance, I’m going there no matter what. I just went to a Houndmouth concert at the Slowdown and it was amazing!

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I used to be really good at Rainbow Loom and even had my own little business. I couldn’t have made more than $30, but I loved making bracelets and charms.

Who inspires you? – All of my friends and family really, they always make me want to be a better person.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? - My dad always said “work smarter not harder” and I try to carry that mantra with everything I do.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Kind.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? - Super speed.

What local nonprofit organization are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I love supporting Vision Maker Media, I think it’s really important to see art from as many different people as possible and they uplift so many underrated filmmakers and artists.

What is your favorite local Omaha restaurant? – Jerico’s! I love the atmosphere and would recommend it for any event.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Jane Austen, I would love to hear about her thought process while writing.
