With 17 years of combined experience in the advertising and printing industries, Raina Garcia and her husband David decided to start their own company, Lost Dog Design, after moving to Omaha from California in 2010.  They started Lost Dog Design to be a one stop creative shop. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
The difficulty of starting a business from scratch in a new state is a great challenge. Through networking and various other avenues we were connected with friendly and helpful people who made the transition much easier. We found the culture in Nebraska to be open and neighborly.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?
It is quite an achievement to be running a steadily growing business.

Tell us a little about your family.
My husband and I have been married for three years and inseparable for a total of 10 years. We moved to Omaha to be close to my mom, three sisters, brother, niece and 3 nephews.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
The move to Nebraska brought so much change to my life. As you can imagine, there is quite a difference from this state and California. I was born and raised in CA, went to college, began my career and met my husband there. We made a huge leap when we decided to relocate.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
When the weather permits, I love to enjoy the outdoors, whether it’s a walk around the lake or simply to a nearby park. I also enjoy reading a good book. Put the two together and I’m in heaven.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I was raised vegetarian and still am to this day.

What are you the most proud of?
I’m the most proud of overcoming my tendency towards being introverted when it comes to business and discovering my ability to put myself out there and network.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
Right now, my goal is to build a strong and successful business.

What are your plans for retirement?
I would love to be one of those couples who travels everywhere.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I would love to have a powerful singing voice.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
I really enjoyed the first book in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander Series.

What is your favorite movie?
I enjoy Quentin Tarantino movies, the Underworld Series, Sci-fi and Action flicks.

What is your favorite TV show?
I love Ellen, Boardwalk Empire and anything vampires like True Blood.

What is your favorite local restaurant?
Thai Spice on 108th and Maple.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
I’m going to have to narrow it down to Ellen.
