Paul Vonderfecht worked for a company that specialized in performing large scale commercial energy efficiency projects in Texas and New York when he decided to move back home to Omaha to start a company that helped residential customers build better, more efficient homes. The company, EnerLux, is an energy efficient window and door manufacturer and Paul opened it in 2008.  They currently manufacture fiberglass and vinyl windows and in September, they are launching their proprietary Composite 300 Series window system.  In addition to manufacturing windows and doors, EnerLux is a distributor of other energy efficient building products that help builders build better, more durable, and energy efficient building envelopes.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
I think my biggest challenge professionally is dealing with all of the onerous government paperwork and legal requirements.  IRS, OSHA, EPA, insurance, license and other rules have a way of making things more challenging than they need to be.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?
A professional achievement that I am proud of is earning a $50,000 Nebraska Innovation Grant for my Composite 300 Series window system last year. It was a very competitive process that required a significant amount of research, due diligence, and time.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
I play in a baseball league through the Strike Zone, play in the Nebraska Flag Football League, and I enjoy golfing a couple of times per year.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
I want to develop EnerLux into Nebraska’s go to window supplier.  When a builder in Nebraska needs energy efficient windows for their home I want them to think EnerLux. With the quality and price of the windows that we manufacture I think this is possible and will just take time and dedication.

What are your plans after retirement?
I just turned 27 three weeks ago, luckily I won’t have to worry about it for a while.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – The thing I like most about my job is that it has so much variety. Each week I get to utilize my different talents and have the opportunity to be creative.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I wish I could be a little smoother on the dance floor.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
I really enjoyed Walter Isaacson’s bio of Steve Jobs.  The stories told are fascinating and there are some great business philosophies to learn from in the book.

What is your favorite movie?
Good Will Hunting.

What is your favorite TV show?
Breaking Bad.

What is your favorite local restaurant?
Maru Sushi.  It’s a locally owned sushi and Korean restaurant next to our plant and the food is always excellent and fairly priced.
