A Sales Division Manager for Physicians Mutual, Mike Story has been named the number one Sales Manager four out of the past five years.  Mike is proud to be a part of the company and enjoys the difference he is able to make in the lives of his customers.  Physicians Mutual is a leading insurer in individual health, life and retirement products. Mike is responsible for the Division Sales Office where their dedicated agents serve clients in Nebraska, South Dakota and western Iowa. Mike Story’s role is to educate, motivate and inspire their field agents.

Tell us a little about your family.
My wonderful wife Trish is a hairstylist with Garbo’s and we have two four-legged kids, (Basenjis) Jack and Nellie.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
The biggest turning point in my life was when my dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor and only had months to live. I had to assume responsibility as caregiver for my mom, who suffered from Multiple Sclerosis, as well as caring for my father.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
On a day off, I enjoy boating on Lake Okoboji or attending live horse racing.

What are you the most proud of?
Growing and maintaining one of the top sales offices in all of Physicians Mutual.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
The best piece of advice I’ve received is move from believing to expecting. I will reach for something beyond where I am presently, I will actively pursue new goals, keeping them out in front of me and expecting to meet them.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
I have always dreamed one day my sales organization would have 100 producing agents. My goal is to accomplish this.

If you could have a super power, what would it be?
If I had a super power, it would be to get my agents to believe in themselves as much as I believe in them.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?
I try to utilize all my talents in my daily work life to inspire and educate agents and potential agents.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
Good to Great by Jim Collins from a business standpoint and Become a Better You by Joel Osteen from a personal standpoint are two of my favorite books.

What is your favorite movie?
My favorite movie is Seabiscuit.

What is your favorite TV show?
I don’t have much time to watch TV, but when I do, enjoy watching anything on ESPN.

What is your favorite local restaurant?
Since I am Italian, my favorite local restaurant is Lo Sole Mio.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
If I could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, it would be Magic Johnson.
