Meet Melia Martin, the office manager at Cars R Us Auto Body and Krown Rust Control.

Tell us a little about your business. – We specialize in rust repairs and prevention, which is an unfortunate reality here in the Midwest. We’re a small business that truly benefits this community. The owner Chris Hunke genuinely cares about his employees and customers, and I am proud to be a member of this team.

How did you get started in the business? – I have worked in several industries and with many companies. I met Chris about three years ago as a part-time parts driver for a local dealership. I was looking for a career and Chris was looking for someone to run the office. I have been here for two years and hope to be here for many more. The people I have met and worked with in this position have helped me to become more of an asset in my role.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Not being considered knowledgeable as a woman in the auto body industry.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Being able to connect with people, and learn new aspects of the automotive industry.

Tell us a little about your family. – I come from a very large family. I’m the oldest of eight and we are local to Nebraska. I have been married almost three years now in October. I have two children, ages nine and five. They definitely keep me on my toes.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Spend time with my family, fishing, hiking, watching movies, painting, and playing with my kids.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I am a Cub Scout leader for my kids local Cub Scout pack. I help organize the fundraisers for the kids’ activities.

Who inspires you? – Heather Duhachek-Chase. She is a domestic violence advocate and survivor who overcame her trauma and started her own counseling service to help kids and survivors of abuse.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “I was raised to treat the janitor with the same respect as the CEO.” – Tom Hardy.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Caring.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Time-bending. I’d be able to get more done in the day.

Which talent would you most like to have? – The ability to draw.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – Stephen Center and Heartland Family Services. My eldest child and I briefly stayed there, and they helped me get back on my feet and prepare me for the life I have now.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?The Privilege of Youth by Dave Pelzer.

What is your favorite movie? – Mitch Albom’s The Five People You Meet in Heaven.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Robin Williams. He always tried to see the good in life even when struggling with his own demons.
