Meet Megan Hartman, the sales associate at True North Technologies.

Tell us a little about your business. – True North Technologies (www.go-tnt.com) is a digital marketing company based in Lincoln. We specialize in website/app development, SEO (search engine optimization), social media management, and other digital marketing services.

How did you get started in the business? – I played college softball at Peru State and majored in Marketing. After college, I worked in sales for a major telecommunications company as well as a leasing agent. This last summer, my fiancé and I played on True North’s slowpitch softball team. Renee, our CEO, liked how competitive I was, and with my interest in marketing and experience in sales, she thought I would be a great fit for True North!

Tell us a little about your family. – I was born and raised in Lincoln. My dad Kirk is the assistant athletic director of HuskerVision. He has been running the Tunnel Walk and big screens for Nebraska Athletics for over 20 years. My mom Linda is the business program co-director at Southeast Community College. She is also on the SCC Board of Governors. My younger brother is a senior at UNL studying electrical engineering. My fiancé Creighton and I have two Huskies named Archer and Harley.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – When I graduated college, I moved to Clearwater, FL, knowing one person in the entire state. That year taught me to push past any comfort zones I may have. Between changing a flat tire by myself on the side of the causeway and maneuvering through my first year of being an adult in a new state, I learned more about myself and what I was capable of in that one year than the prior 21 years combined.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – My dad would always use the quote “The great ones adjust,” whether it was odds against myself, or just natural life changes. I always think, “How can I adapt to the situation and make the best of it?”

Who inspires you? – My parents and my late Grandma Emily. My parents have shown me what a good work ethic can do for you in life. I have always admired how much time and effort they put into what they both do. My Grandma Emily was a social butterfly, and she inspires me every day to be more caring to others, as well as to take the time to stop and really get to know someone.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Spending time outside to recharge. I love going to the lake and going boating/tubing.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – A lawyer. I have debated going back to school to get my law degree for a few years now.

What is your favorite movie? – Related to my previous answer— Legally Blonde, but also anything Marvel.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Surprising—boring is overrated.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – I would say Elon Musk. He has such a brilliant yet interesting mind. There are so many topics I would love to pick his brain on.
