How did you get started in the business? – When I was 20 years old I was offered a job from an electrical contractor in the Omaha area. I proceeded to work for that same contractor for over 14 years, learning valuable lessons about the trade from some of the best in the business. I then decided that it was time that I went out on my own, so I started Concept Electric Company Inc.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Learning how to wear the many hats that go along with running a business and balancing them at the same time is a big challenge. The days of just showing up and doing one thing are over.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Every job that I complete, no matter if it is big or small, is an achievement professionally for me. I feel a certain level of gratification when it’s all said and done in knowing that I delivered a quality job on time.
Tell me a little about your family. – I will have been married to my lovely wife Jennifer for ten years this September! We have two sons, ages 7 and 4, who keep us very busy. I am having an absolute blast raising those boys and seeing how different their personalities are. My wife and I were born and raised in Omaha where we currently live.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Going out on my own and starting my own electrical business is something that I wanted from day one. I felt like I thought about it for so long that finally taking the first step and actually doing it was a big deal for me and my family.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I would have to say just hanging out with my family. So much of the week is spent grinding out day to day tasks that it’s nice just to throw the ball around or go for a bike ride.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I’m one hell of a dancer.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “A big job is just a bunch of little jobs.” I think there is a lot to be said in that one sentence. More detail is spent, and things are not as overwhelming, when they are broken down into smaller projects.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – College football coach.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Swing Your Sword by Mike Leach. I am fascinated by the way his mind operates.
What is your favorite movie? – Braveheart
What is your favorite TV show? – Pawn Stars
What is your favorite local restaurant? – Bohemian Café. I can be easily influenced if there is dumplings and kraut promised to me from that place.
