River City Six – Jesse Morton

Meet Jesse Morton, residential remodeling foreman at Big Birge Plumbing.

Tell us a little about your business.

Big Birge Plumbing handles service plumbing calls, residential remodels, and commercial plumbing jobs in the Omaha Metro area. The owners, Brad and Lallenia Birge, are passionate about changing the negative stereotype of a plumber. Our team is highly trained and committed to doing the very best job we can for businesses and homeowners in the community. We take our roles very seriously! Big Birge has built a reputation for being professional and fair with our prices. Whether you need help with a kitchen or bathroom remodel, water heater repair, gas or water piping, or drain cleaning and clogged toilets, our team is up for the task.

How did you get started in the business?

I was working a dead end job out of high school and knew I wanted something more. My brother-in-law knew Brad and encouraged me to give him a call about joining his plumbing company. I started that following week. I was actually Big Birge Plumbing’s first employee!

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?

People tend to not trust my opinion because of my young age. This has challenged me to really know what I’m talking about!

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

Passing the Journeyman Plumber test on my first try.

Tell us a little about your family.

I have a three-year-old daughter named Amelia and a son on the way! His name will be Milo. We also have a few pets—a dog, cat, and some turtles.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?

I enjoy doing yard work and projects around the house. I’m also thankful for any time I get to spend with my family. Every now and then, I get locked into a video game.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?

I really love turtles.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t make the same mistake twice.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

“I’m a Believer” by Smashmouth.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

Make money come out of my fingertips whenever I wanted it.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?

My sarcastic personality. It’s great, but not always acceptable for customers.

What is your favorite movie?

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

What is your favorite TV show?

Bob’s Burgers. It’s the perfect show to watch at night and unwind to.

What is your favorite local restaurant?

Mouth of The South.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?

Samuel L. Jackson.
