Jake Hillwick started in the delivery business in 1998 with a single truck and single contract.  He joined HotShot Deliveries Inc. soon after and left the cab of a truck for an office chair.  He moved his way up in the company until teaming up with his business partner to purchase the business at the end of 2006.  HotShot Deliveries Inc. specializes in delivering anything, anywhere, and anytime.  They use years of experience and technology to take the worries out of everyday business delivery needs.  HSD handles On-Demand, Scheduled, Routed and Distribution deliveries for hundreds of companies nationwide.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
The untimely death in 2009 of my close friend and business partner, Scott Long, was the most trying time in my professional life.  I miss him every day, and still ask myself when making decisions, “What would Scott think?”

Tell us a little about your family.
I have been married to my best friend Samantha for 6 years.  Samantha and I enjoy raising our 4-year-old twins Liam and Rose.  Our family is the center of our universe and a source of pride and happiness.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
Samantha and I were married and closed on the purchase of HotShot Deliveries Inc. in the same week in October 2006.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
I never really have a day off as our company operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year.  But, I always manage to put together several hours in a row to spend with my family.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I am actually an introverted person who struggles to communicate with strangers.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
When a trusted advisor boldly told me I would never make a living as a salesperson.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
My current goal is to raise my children to be humble, respectable members of society.  By far being a parent is the most difficult job I have ever had, but the most rewarding at the same time.

If you could have a super power, what would it be?
If God gave me a super power, I would want the ability to heal people.  We have all lost too many loved ones to disease!

What are your plans after retirement?
I don’t sit still very well.  Therefore, retirement will equal working less than 60 hours per week and more leisure travel.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I wish I was a better teacher.  I know what I know, but I struggle with the ability to teach others.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
The Five Dysfunctions of a Team

What is your favorite movie?
The Negotiator

What is your favorite TV show?
I don’t have extra time to watch television; however, I do watch as many live NFL games as possible.

What is your favorite local restaurant?
Jerico’s – The BEST prime rib.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
Nelson Mandela.  He was selfless in his pursuit for justice and equality for all.  I would like to know how he remained focused and determined during the trials and tribulation is his life.
