Meet Heidi O’Connell, APRN at Harmony Med Spa.

Tell us a little about your business.Harmony Med Spa (harmonymedspa.net) is an amazing place where everyone is welcome and encouraged to be their best self. It is comfortable for those who have been to med spas many times and for people who this is their first experience.

How did you get started in the business? – Working in a hospital for the last few years, we saw firsthand many people, including ourselves, forget to make themselves a priority and to focus on their own health. We wanted a place where it was ok make yourself a priority and take care of yourself.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Balancing work and family life has been my biggest challenge. I have been in school getting my MSN then my MBA all while having two girls and a husband. I often would put work, my kids, and my husband all before taking care of myself.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Opening Harmony has always been a dream. I wanted a med spa where I felt like I wasn’t even going to work every day and that when people come in, they feel like just staying all day.

Tell us a little about your family. – I have two daughters, Katie (15) and Mary (12). I have an amazing supportive husband Matt, and we just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. I also have two dogs and my daughter has a bearded dragon and a chinchilla—so my house is literally a zoo.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Going back to school over and over again. Whether it was going to nursing school, Nurse Practitioner school, or getting my master’s degree in business administration, every time I went back to school I was investing in myself.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – On my days off, I love spending time with my kids and my husband. I enjoy running, yoga, reading, and sitting by the pool or just on the patio in the sun. I love seeing live music, theater, and comedy shows, as well.

Who inspires you? – I’m inspired by people who take some risks to reach their dreams.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Kind.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “What a Wonderful World” by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Time travel would be pretty great.

Which talent would you most like to have? – I really wish I could sing, but I seriously cannot!

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I always tell my husband that I am going to go to law school one day.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – Yoshitomo in Benson.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – RBG.
