Meet Genna Roark, the assistant general manager at Stretch Zone Omaha (www.stretchzone.com/locations/legacy).
Tell us a little about your business. – We provide a service called practitioner-assisted stretching using our patented belting system that helps isolate each muscle for a deeper pin-pointed stretch. We help with flexibility, improved range of motion, less stiffness and tightness, and overall athletic performance.
How did you get started in the business? – I was working at Massage Envy at the time with a family friend of the owner. She knew they were looking for managers and thought that I would be a perfect fit for this new and upcoming company.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Finding a job that best suited my strengths and passion to help people to where I felt like I belonged there and was meant to be doing. A Lot of people work only for money, obviously, and not really for the actual enjoyment and passion of their job. For me, that was the case for the longest time because I knew I wanted to help people but I just didn’t know in which way would best suit my strengths and talents.
Tell us a little about your family. – I am married to my high school sweetheart, Cody. He is a Kentucky native and I am a Texas native. He works as a deputy for the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office. We have a 10-month-old daughter named June who keeps us on our toes. We love to spend time with my in-laws who live close to us.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Becoming a mother to my daughter. I can definitely say I have changed my view and outtake on life since having her.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Go to concerts!
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I was named after my father’s nickname, Gino.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “What will be, will be.”
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Genuine.
If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “Hit Me With Your Best Shot” by Pat Benatar.
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I enjoy cooking and baking.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Anything design related. I actually have a bachelor’s degree in the science of design.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Taking People with You by David C. Novak.
What is your favorite movie? – Grease. Specifically the second one because the songs are WAY better, but I give credit where it’s due because the first is such a classic.
What is your favorite TV show? – One Tree Hill.
What is your favorite local restaurant? – Blue Sushi.
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Aristotle because I really love to learn and understand the mind and people.
