Eric Madej is a small business owner who is determined to produce quality work at affordable prices.  Madej Enterprises focuses on remodeling bathrooms, kitchens and basements as well as building decks and exterior painting.

How did you get started in the business? – I started painting for my dad and uncle when I was in high school.  They both set an example that working for myself was possible, and that I did not need to work for someone else the rest of my life.  I found my construction skills were very good and I caught on to things very quickly.  I decided to work on my own projects on evenings and weekends and that evolved to taking that giant step of faith.  I decided to trust in myself and trust that God would provide for me, and that trust has served me well during my thirteen years in business.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?  – The biggest challenge I face professionally is finding people who have the same values as I do.  Not necessarily personal values, rather business values.  Finding those people to work with who strive for excellence, perfection and customer satisfaction.  Word of mouth will make or break a business, so customer satisfaction is very important to me.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I have never been caught up in professional achievements.  For me, every satisfied customer is another personal and professional achievement.  Without satisfied customers, it doesn’t matter how many plaques I have on my wall or how many awards I have achieved.  If I don’t have people who trust me and customers who are satisfied with the work I have done, I do not feel like I have achieved what I set out to achieve.

Tell me a little about your family. – I will be married to my wife, Jodi, for 15 years in November.  We have three children; 13, 11 and 10.  We have all been born and raised in Omaha.  I enjoy spending time with my family and I strive to raise responsible children who respect others.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – On my day off I like to golf or spend time with my family.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I am actually a pretty good public speaker.  I seem quiet and reserved, but when I get up in front of a group of people to speak, another side of me comes out.

What are you the most proud of? – I am proud of my upbringing, and the children I am raising.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Not to dwell on my past successes and/or failures because my best days are still ahead of me.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Integrity
