Tell us a little about your business. – Family Eyecare (FamilyEyeCareCenterOmaha.com) by Dr. Michelle is a locally owned, independent practice proudly serving the Omaha metro with personalized, high-quality eye care. We care for patients of all ages and provide comprehensive services for a wide range of eye conditions, including blurry vision, eye infections, cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. Our boutique optical offers a thoughtfully curated selection of eyeglasses and contact lenses to meet individual’s needs. We believe in treating every patient like family and truly love what we do.
How did you get started in the business? – I grew up around optometry. My dad is a retired optometrist (former owner), so I spent a lot of time in his office and saw firsthand how much of a difference good eyecare can make in people’s lives. I loved the mix of science, connection, and helping others feel better, and I knew I wanted a career where I could care for people. Today, I’m proud to continue that legacy while creating a warm, modern practice where patients truly feel like family.
Tell us a little about your family. – My family means everything to me. They are my greatest support, my biggest motivation, and the reason I do what I do. Being a wife and a mom is my proudest role, and my kids are truly my greatest joy. Family is at the heart of everything I do, both at home and at work, and it shapes the way I care for every patient who walks through our doors. My husband, Mike, is my biggest fan and my partner in life in every way. Together, we have three beautiful children, all ages six and under, who fill our home with laughter, love, and purpose.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – Most people don’t know that I’ve always had a flair for fashion. I love styling outfits, noticing details, and dreaming about learning how to sew and create my own clothing someday.
Who inspires you? – I’m inspired by the people who help shape our future generations, through teaching, coaching, and leading with heart. My husband and I are right in the thick of raising three little ones, and we truly believe it takes a village. Can you imagine 17 six-year-olds in our daughter’s kindergarten classroom? How in the world do teachers do it?!
Which superpower would you love to have? – This may sound cliché, being an eye doctor, but I’d love to have eyes in the back of my head. Like for watching my kids, driving, and navigating busy life in general, it would make parenting, parking lots, and multitasking a whole lot easier!
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I’m a proud supporter of Food Bank for the Heartland, whose mission is to help eliminate hunger in Nebraska and western Iowa by ensuring families have access to nutritious food. In addition to our personal involvement, the Family Eyecare by Dr. Michelle team donates time volunteering at the food bank as an organization. Giving back together is one of the ways we live out our belief in caring for our community, both inside and outside the office.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – I’m currently reading Disrupt Everything and Win, a New York Times bestseller that’s been inspiring my leadership mindset. It’s challenged me to think bigger, lead with intention, and continue creating a practice rooted in purpose and growth.
