White Deer Retreat is an intimate little retreat center, capable of hosting small retreats, business meetings, fundraisers, women’s weekends, or overnight stays for couples or individuals.  The best aspect of it is that it is located on top of a bluff with a fantastic view of the Missouri River valley, in the woods and near a great hiking/biking trail and it is only 5 minutes north of I680.  It has many amenities including six wellness practitioners and two professional musicians who are available, along with Mother Nature, to assist with everyone’s well-being.  Debra Cook is the proprietor of White Deer Retreat.

How did you get started in the business? – That is an amazing (and long) story, which I am happy to share with guests.  It truly is a tale of loss and renewal.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Marketing has been a big challenge.  It can get very expensive.  I believe that once the word gets out that we exist, word-of-mouth will take over.  In the meantime, I’m learning the value of networking!

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – After being an employee for over 30 years and being, by nature, a right-brained personality, putting a business together physically, legally, financially, and emotionally has been an amazing journey.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – There have been many.   Leaving a 29 year career and starting two new businesses has been one of them.  I also own a counseling practice.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I am spontaneous, so whatever comes up to experience that day.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I taught piano for 10 years.  I don’t play for anyone but myself anymore so most people don’t know.

What are you the most proud of? The challenges I’ve undertaken and what I’ve created through vision, faith, and wonderful friends.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? No matter what life may look like at the moment, just know it all is in loving and Divine order.
