Estate Landscape Nursery is a locally-owned family business.  They purchased the Ferguson greenhouses in 2008 from a very well established family that had owned the greenhouses for over 100 years.  Everything is grown locally, as opposed to shipping product in from other climates or greenhouses.  Estate Landscape Nursery is open to the public during spring season: April 1 – June 20, fall season: Sept. 15 – Oct. 30, and winter season: Nov. 18 – Dec. 21st.  Danielle Waschkowski is a co-owner and operator of Estate Landscape Nursery.

How did you get started in the business? – We also own a lawn and landscape business.  When trying to find local nurseries and growers to grow quality plants in large bulk there was no business like that in the Omaha market.  We bought the greenhouses to grow our own annuals, perennials, and bedding plants.  This quickly grew into wholesale to other businesses, and our retail market is ever expanding as well.  Our motto is beautiful flowers make great neighbors!

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – The biggest challenges we face today is the large box stores that have no idea how to take care of flowers, yet have their parking lots full of low quality, under cared for plants.  We strive to give our customers that one-on-one attention, in order to help them make their gardening experience as successful as possible.  We want to educate our customers and give them accurate information so they can plant properly and can be as creative as their budgets allow.

Tell me a little about your family. – My husband Lothar (“Luke”) and I got married in 2004.  We had our first son, Ehren (now 8) in February 2005.  Our second son, Tyson (now almost 5) was born just two days after we bought the nursery in June 2008.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Besides flowers, our second passion in life is camping! After all the flowers are sold (in June) we hit the road.  It is our time to enjoy the outdoors, hiking, fishing, swimming, campfires, smores, and all the other awesome family activities that go along with camping.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I love adventure!  I’ve been scuba diving, bungee jumping and parasailing.  No heights are too tall–I love the adrenaline rush!  Someday, I would love to parachute.

What are you the most proud of? – My family.  My kids are truly are an inspiration to me, and I always strive to be better for them.  Someday my husband and I would love our business to get passed along to our sons.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Honesty is the best policy.  In business and in my personal life that advice has never let me down.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Horse training/boarding

What is your favorite movie? – You can never go wrong with a classic.  I love the older version of The Great Gatsby.  I can’t wait to see the new one!

What is your favorite TV show? – Judge Judy or American Idol.  It’s a toss-up!

What is your favorite local restaurant? – Wave Bistro.  It is Asian Fusion Cuisine.  Go hungry because the food is awesome and the service is even better.
