Meet Britton Hamm, assistant vice president, branch manager of West Gate Bank at 97th and Q Streets.

Tell us a little about your business. – West Gate Bank (westgate.bank) is a local community bank. We are committed to serving our communities, while helping our customers and employees achieve their dreams. We have a multitude of products and services we offer to meet all your personal or business banking needs.

Tell us a little about your family. – I am from Plainview, a small town in northeast Nebraska. My parents are still in that area and each have been in education for over 30 years. My brother and sister-in-law live in Omaha. My brother works for Boyd Jones. My sister-in-law is still in school and looking after my niece and two nephews. My sister also lives in Omaha and is a Kindergarten teacher at Prairie Wind Elementary.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – If the weather allows for it, I love to golf. I am a fan of all sports, both playing and watching/fandom. I really enjoy hanging out with my friends
and family.

Who inspires you? – I am fortunate to have multiple sources of inspiration. First, my mom. She is the strongest person I know. She inspires me to be strong, caring, and forgiving. Second, my dad. He is the hardest worker I know and inspires me to always do my best, work as hard as I possibly can, and never give up. I have been lucky to have a few different work mentors as amazing role models. They serve as inspiration to keep working hard to get to where I
want to be in life.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – Chinese proverb from Lao Tzu

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Teleportation or flight. I could save some serious traveling time!

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – As I said, I am a fan of sports. If I couldn’t play one professionally, I would want to be an NFL general manager. My second dream job is to be an NBA referee!

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I volunteer for Junior Achievement. JA goes into the classroom and teaches kids about financial literacy. As most of my family is in education, I always wanted to be a teacher when I was younger. It’s a perfect organization for me because it allows me to teach and connect with kids while also teaching them financial lessons that they otherwise
wouldn’t get without JA.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – John Grisham is my favorite author. I like all of his books that I’ve read, but The Firm would be my favorite by him.

What is your favorite movie? – I enjoy movies and TV shows. It’s hard for me to pick favorites, but because I watched it recently, I will say The Big Lebowski.

What is your favorite TV show? – Again, tough for me to pick, but I’d say favorite drama is The Sopranos and favorite comedy is It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
