Schmitt Chiropractic & Rehab focuses on offering quality treatments and a variety of methods for pain management, and is locally owned and operated by Brad Schmitt, DC.

Tell us a little about your business. – I opened Schmitt Chiropractic & Rehab in July of 2012 after graduating from chiropractic school in the spring of 2012.  My business involves helping people get out of pain, stay out of pain, and live a healthier life by keeping their body functional.  There are a number of techniques I utilize to help each person reach this level, depending on what is needed to fix the problem causing the pain and dysfunction.  Along with traditional chiropractic care, I specialize in Dry Needling, Active Release Technique, Kinesiology Taping, and functional rehab.  Dry needling and Active Release are muscle techniques designed to release tension, restore proper length, and remove dysfunction. Both are excellent for running/sports injuries, acute injuries, or chronic pain.  Many times when someone hears the term “dry needling” they immediately think of acupuncture.  There is some similarity between the two, but many differences as well.   If someone has had acupuncture done before, their experience with dry needling would be quite different in what they felt during treatment, as compared to acupuncture.  Having said that, there are variations in how acupuncture is done, as well as variations in the way dry needling is done depending on the physician.  Functional rehabilitation involves putting the person through tests or screens to find the areas of dysfunction in the body.  Once those areas are identified, specific exercises are given to regain the function.  As a chiropractor, my goal is to restore function to the patient, which in turn will reduce or eliminate pain. Having a variety of techniques to utilize helps the patient and I reach that goal.

How did you get started in the business? – I first went to a chiropractor in middle school after dealing with low back pain for a couple years.  I saw several medical doctors and specialists and no one could tell me what was wrong.  I grew up in a small town and there wasn’t a chiropractor there.  Someone suggested trying a chiropractor and three months later I was pain free.  I continued seeing chiropractors throughout high school for sports injuries and it sparked my interest, so I pursued it in college.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced professionally? – The biggest challenge has been opening a business straight out of graduating from chiropractic school.  Balancing treatment, learning how to run a business, and at the same time trying to grow the business was a challenge.  Having to do all of that early on has helped me learn the ins and outs of the business and has been a blessing in the long run.

Tell me a little about your family. – I have been married for four years to my wife, Ashley.  She is a Physician Assistant and works in hematology/oncology.  We have an almost 2 year old son, Cole, and one on the way, due in January.  We are both originally from northeast Nebraska and have lived in Omaha for three years.

What is your favorite thing to do on your day off? – There’s nothing I enjoy more than being able to spend time with my family on my days off.  I also enjoy golfing, hunting, watching Husker football, and being outdoors.
