Angie Lewis grew up with an entrepreneurial spirit and has always wanted to own her own business.  She found the perfect opportunity when she opened The Corky Canvas, first in Lincoln and now with a second location in Omaha’s Midtown Crossing, which combines her business background with her love for painting.  The Corky Canvas is a fun and unique alternative to Lincoln and Omaha’s nightlife.  With a paint brush in one hand, a glass of wine in the other and the music pumpin’, you will have a blast creating your masterpiece.  Angie knows that everyone has some hidden artistic ability in them somewhere and she is excited to help you discover it!  The Corky Canvas is perfect for girls’ night out, date night, bachelorette parties, team building, holiday parties, birthdays, club outings and more!

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Educating the public on the concept of The Corky Canvas has been challenging.  This is a new experience in Omaha and people think that you have to be artistic; so, they are hesitant to give it a try.  I know once I get them in the door, though, they will be hooked!!!

Tell us a little about your family. – I have the most supportive family who has taught me that anything is possible! I got married in September of 2012 and my husband Todd is extremely supportive of my business and my goals of being a successful business owner.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?  – Deciding to start this business was a turning point for me.  It was a huge commitment and I knew that my life would never be the same.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I love being outside!  Camping is at the top of my list.  It allows me to get away…no projects, no work, just time to relax.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – Most people in Lincoln don’t know that I have an identical twin sister.  As kids we looked exactly alike…I can’t even tell us apart in school pictures.  We still confuse people all the time and have the exact same voice.  Maybe I should hire her to take my solicitation calls!

What are you the most proud of? – I’m most proud that I have earned and worked hard for everything I have!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Never put off ‘til tomorrow what you can do today.–Thomas Jefferson  I have to tell myself this all the time because I’m the world’s biggest procrastinator!

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish? – My goal is to put Corky Canvases in more cities throughout mid-west!

How would your friends describe you? – Very competitive…maybe to a fault!

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – The E-Myth is a great book and a must read for any new business owner!

What is your favorite movie? – Christmas Vacation- I bring it out when I need a good laugh!

What is your favorite local restaurant? – Anywhere in Midtown Crossing!  Too many good restaurants to pick just one!

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Van Gogh – I’m sure he has a few good stories to tell including why he cut his ear off!
