River City Six – Amy Hovaldt
Meet Amy Hovaldt, a registered vascular technologist for VENUS Vein Clinic.
Tell us a little about your business.
We help patients that suffer with leg pain, swelling, and restlessness caused by venous insufficiency. I perform the diagnostic studies with ultrasound, looking at the health of veins.
How did you get started in the business?
I’ve been doing cardiovascular ultrasound for over 20 years, and that has taken many forms. I have focused on veins specifically for the last eight years because what we do can make such a big difference for people. It’s very rewarding to get to know our patients and help them feel so much better.
Tell us a little about your family.
I have a wonderful husband and three bright sons. I have one daughter-in-law, and I am a grandmother of a feisty little girl.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
We have an acreage with a small farm. I enjoy spending my time off working with the animals and finding new projects to complete.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I am a beekeeper.
Who inspires you?
My parents. My mother has inspired me to be an independent woman, and my father has given me a strong work ethic.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be?
Capable.
If you could have a super power, what would it be?
I’d say the power to clone myself in order to take care of patients, family, and self all at the same time.
Which talent would you most like to have?
I wish I could sing.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be?
I am blessed to have chosen a field that is very fulfilling, and I can’t imagine another profession that would give me this level of satisfaction every day.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why?
We got our dogs from the Town and Country Humane Society. They are a wonderful no-limit shelter run entirely by volunteers. They are a safe and caring facility for pets in need until a home can be found.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
I prefer anything suspenseful, typically from James Patterson or Lisa Jackson.
What is your favorite movie?
Remember the Titans.
What is your favorite TV show?
Anything on HGTV.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
