As part of Global Volunteer Month, United Way of the Midlands (UWM) (unitedwaymidlands.org) hosted its annual Volunteer Appreciation Awards Luncheon on Thursday, April 9.

The event honored outstanding community volunteers whose thoughtful leadership and hard work play a significant role in strengthening our community. Through their time and dedication, they support essential community programs and inspire others to give back.

Nine individuals were recognized during the event, with awards presented by UWM Board Chair Paul Maass, CEO, Scoular:

  • New Volunteer of the Year: Brooke McAlpin, Cornerstone Staffing
  • Legacy of Service Volunteer of the Year: Ray Stoupa, Creighton University
  • Leadership in Action Volunteer of the Year: Chuck Walls, National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 5
  • Days of Service Volunteer of the Year: Ali John, Werner®
  • Campaign Volunteer of the Year: Abby Manley, Pacific Life Insurance Company
  • Good on the Go Volunteer of the Year: Sara Meis, Goosmann Law Firm
  • Community Impact Volunteer of the Year: Kay Doyle, Oui Coaching & Consulting
  • Commitment to Excellence Volunteer of the Year: Greg Schilling, FNBO
  • Rising Star Volunteer of the Year: JDon Norland, QuikTrip

“We are so grateful for our volunteers who generously give their time to help others,” said Shawna Forsberg, president and CEO, UWM. “These individuals create ripples of good across the metro and are often the ‘unsung heroes’ who work behind the scenes to help others.”
