United Way of the Midlands recently named Shawna Forsberg president and chief executive officer. Her appointment concludes a nationwide search led by James Abruzzo, head of the Nonprofit Practice at DHR International, a global executive search firm. Forsberg is responsible for implementing the organization’s strategic initiatives in the areas of basic needs, workforce readiness and classroom readiness to continue strengthening the local community. She will lead United Way of the Midlands fundraising, marketing and financial management initiatives.

Forsberg served as interim president since July 2014, following the unexpected passing of president and CEO Karen Bricklemyer. Prior to her interim president role, Forsberg was senior vice president of marketing. She has more than 15 years of marketing and communications leadership experience in non-profit and for-profit environments including roles at The Durham Museum and ConAgra Foods. Forsberg received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and a Master of Business Administration from Sam Houston State University.
