The Brownell-Talbot School Board of Trustees announced today that Sylvia Rodríguez Vargas, Ph.D., has officially begun her duties as Head of School. Dr. Rodríguez Vargas was selected by the Board to lead the school that serves children in preschool thru grade 12.

Early in her career Dr. Rodríguez Vargas became department chair at Berkeley Carroll School in Brooklyn, New York, a private, K-12 college prep school. She later became middle school director at the Columbus School for Girls in Ohio, a private, non-sectarian day school. Prior to moving to Omaha, she was associate head of school and dean of academics at Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh, North Carolina, an independent, Episcopal, college preparatory, boarding and day school.

Brownell-Talbot School’s 2012-2013 academic year begins Monday, August 27. Dr. Rodríguez Vargas will be formally installed during a chapel service Tuesday, August 28.
