Release Inc. (releaseinc.org) is celebrating Wininger’s retirement after 12 years of leadership! Dave has faithfully served as their Executive Director and CEO since 2012.
Dave first began with Release as a volunteer at the Douglas County Youth Center, where he later joined the board and was eventually voted in as Executive director at the retirement of Release’s founder, Bill Ellett. Prior to his time at Release, Dave had earned two master’s degrees and served 23 years as a commissioned Officer in the Air Force. At his hire, Dave was tasked with the focus of adding systems and processes as Release transitioned from its founder. Under Dave’s tenure, Release experienced many periods of growth and change and saw the addition of several new services, while always remaining committed to the youth and families of Omaha. Dave continues to faithfully serve the youth at DCYC in weekly Bible studies and maintains a desire to be a positive change agent in the community.
Staff recognized Dave for his commitment to Release and its teams, appreciating his frequent comments about how the people are the best part of Release! Dave is leaving a legacy of trust, prayer, support and commitment at Release.
Release was born in response to the needs of the kids in the Douglas County Youth Center. Since then, they’ve grown organically to connect youth with mentors, take social work directly into the homes of families, offer mental health services and help kids find homes through foster care.
