Ron Ahrens, who has extensive experience in residential care programming and administration, joined the Omaha Home for Boys (www.omahahomeforboys.org) as the new Residential Program Director in April.
Before arriving at the Home, he spent 15 years at Mooseheart Child City and School, the largest child care agency in the state of Illinois, serving the last 11 as its Director of Residential Living.
During his time at Mooseheart, he coached the boys’ basketball team to the Illinois High School 1A State Basketball Championship in 2014 and was named the Illinois Basketball Coach of the Year.
Originally from Wahoo, NE, Ahrens has returned there to live with wife, Michaela, and children, Amanda, Candace, Trey, Teague and Turner. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State College in 1986 and his Master of Human Service Administration degree from National Louis University in Chicago in 2003. Before relocating to Illinois, he spent 13 years in various roles at Boys Town – four years as the coordinator of the National Training Center, eight as a family teacher and one as a behavior interventionist.
In his new role, Ahrens oversees many of the campus departments, including residential living for youth and house parents, admissions and family services, wellness and recreation, education and food services.
