From the power of poetry to the rhythm of the youth — today’s spotlight is all about movement, message, and legacy at Juneteenth Joyfest 2025 (juneteenthjoyfest.com).
JustKu: Writer. Designer. Poet. Educator. Shukura Huggins, aka JustKu, is a multidisciplinary creative telling stories that heal and connect. A national slam poet, founding member of The Wordsmiths, and teaching artist with the Nebraska Writers Collective, she’s committed to honoring memory, joy, and community through every word and visual. “Tell your story — no one can tell it better than you.”
Niko Bailey: Young, gifted, and unapologetically powerful. Niko’s poetry weaves rhythm with truth, history with heart. A voice of the next generation, his words aim to spark change, inspire reflection, and uplift Black identity with every stanza.
Destruction Drill Team: 12 years strong and still going harder than ever — Destruction Drill Team is a force. This youth-centered crew of dancers and drummers (ages four–18) brings electrifying energy and unity to every stage, rooted in community and excellence.
AP’s Legacy Academy: Where tradition meets expression. This Black-led dance program celebrates the cultural legacy of Black dance while training the next generation in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, and hip hop. With a mission to empower youth and build strong foundations of identity and artistry, AP’s Legacy Academy is shaping stars from the inside out.
