An open house September 15 celebrated the newest location for the Vocational Development Center (VODEC) and attracted 125 people for a reception and ribbon cutting by representatives of VODEC, the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce and the Sarpy County Chamber.  A parent of a VODEC client also spoke about how VODEC services have positively impacted his family’s life.

The new location replaces the Abbott Drive facility and is home to vocational, residential and day habilitation services.  VODEC evacuated the Abbott Drive location in June due to flood concerns. The  Vocational Development Center has four locations in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area and provided services in its most recently ended fiscal year to more than 550 persons with developmental disabilities.

Sponsors for the open house included Walmart, 72nd and Center Street, Costco and WhyArts, a non profit that provides art programming to people with disabilities, seniors and disadvantaged youth.  Musician Michael Murphy provided the music for the event.

The Vocational Development Center is a non-profit organization providing vocational, day habilitation and residential services for people with disabilities which enables them to gain employment and live independently.
