For youth who are blind or experiencing vision loss, early access to a welcoming community that offers adaptive training and inclusive, fun recreational activities can be life-changing. Outlook Enrichment (outlooken.org) and Outlook Nebraska are committed to positively impacting youth and adults.

For young people with visual impairments, building skills early in life fosters independence and confidence, and connecting with a community of peers who share similar experiences can boost self-esteem. For some kids, they may be the only student with vision loss in their school. Having peers who truly understand their experience is powerful. Outlook offers early intervention, helping to fill a critical gap when schools are stretched thin or are unable to offer adaptive sports and other inclusive activities.

Outlook Enrichment offers youth recreational outings like paddle boarding, tandem bike riding and skiing that provide physical activity and community connection, helping counteract the lower activity levels often seen among youth with vision loss.

Outlook Enrichment also offers a teen support group, where participants can openly discuss life with vision loss. Sessions explore emotional, physical and social well-being. Beyond the support group, the organization provides hands-on training in adaptive technology, independent living skills and personalized transitional services to help teens confidently move from high school to college or the workforce.

During Children’s Eye and Safety Month in August, Outlook remains committed to empowering youth through resources, recreation and relationships. Outlook Enrichment aims to be the first place families turn to for guidance and accessible opportunities.
