Open Door Mission (opendoormission.org) will be hosting a Celebration Carnival for men, women and children experiencing homelessness and poverty to enjoy Saturday, August 3, at Open Door Mission (2828 N 23rd St. E). The activities will include carnival games, popcorn, snow cones and lunch, and Open Door Mission will be giving out new clothing items for children.

To do this, Open Door Mission needs volunteers to set up carnival games, tables, chairs, work the game booths, serve in the food area, manage the clothing area and break down items at the end of the event. Shifts are 3 hours. Volunteers can choose from 8 to 11 a.m., 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 12 to 3 p.m. New volunteers will have to create submit an application and create a VOMO account by going to opendoormission.org/volunteer/. If volunteers already have an account, they can sign up online at opendoormission.vomo.org/opportunity/celebration-carnival.

Volunteers may bring children (ages 0-15) as helpers without needing to register them. Children 16 and over are required to fill out their own application. When signing up for the event, select the shift and role that is best suited.

Dress appropriately for the weather; closed-toe, closed-heel shoes (tennis shoes) are required. Consider wearing a ball cap, and bring sunscreen in case it’s hot outside!
