United Way of the Midlands (UWM) (UnitedWayMidlands.org) is excited to announce its collaboration with Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) and the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) on launching the Weatherization Assistance Program (Weatherization) in Douglas County. This initiative helps low-income households improve energy efficiency, reduce utility costs and enhance health and safety within the home.
The Weatherization program provides free energy-efficiency services to qualifying households, thanks to funding from the U.S. Departments of Energy and Health and Human Services. Eligible households will receive a comprehensive home energy audit, followed by improvements to reduce energy consumption. These improvements can include adding insulation, sealing windows and doors and addressing potential indoor air quality and safety hazards.
Following a home audit, trained crews will complete the necessary improvements, including energy-efficient upgrades and any health and safety measures required. A certified inspector verifies that all work is completed to ensure the home is safer, healthier and more energy-efficient for the residents.
UWM’s 211 Helpline is accepting Weatherization applications for households in Douglas County – and will also assist with determining eligibility for the program – making it easier for families to access this vital service.
“We are proud to collaborate with OPPD and NDEE on this program that not only helps families reduce their energy costs but also creates safer, healthier homes,” said Shawna Forsberg, UWM president and CEO.
