United Way of the Midlands held its Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon in April, which featured Mike and Nancy McCarthy as the recipients of the United Way “Citizens of the Year” award for their volunteer and philanthropic commitment to our area’s human service, education and arts communities. John Gottschalk made the award presentation, and the chairs of the 2013 United Way drive, Kirk and Teresa Kellner, were introduced. Additionally, United Way of the Midlands Board Chair Terry Kroeger was honored and the new board leader, Rodrigo Lopez, assumed the chair’s position for 2013-2014. Kroeger is publisher of the Omaha World-Herald Company and Lopez is President and CEO of AmeriSphere Multifamily Finance LLC. Luncheon attendees included community and business leaders, donors and non-profit partner agencies.
