United Way of the Midlands Receives Support for 2-1-1 Helpline
For the third year in a row, United Way of the Midlands (www.UnitedWayMidlands.org) and the 2-1-1 Helpline received support from Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium to provide free household memberships to eligible families as a part of their “Bring Your Family to the Zoo” program. This year, third grade students in 44 area Omaha-Council Bluffs metro schools with an 80% or higher free or reduced lunch rate were eligible for the program.
One of the main goals of the program was to educate schools and families about the 2-1-1 Helpline, which is managed by United Way of the Midlands. 2-1-1 Helpline is a free, confidential information and referral service that connects people of all ages in Nebraska and Southwest Iowa to a specialist who will help them find local health and human services.
Thanks to donors, volunteers, and community partners, United Way of the Midlands is not only focused on addressing our community’s human needs today; it is focused on what can be, and what should be. It is building on today’s strong partnerships to create even more comprehensive human service efforts tomorrow, so our community can solve some of the root causes of poverty.
